Our Vision

Our vision can be broken down into three categories – three simple things we do as a church:

Worship.  Build Up.  Love.

WORSHIP

According to the Bible, worship is everything.  Who or what we worship determines how we order our lives and set our priorities.  While we recognize and affirm this way of using the term worship, and while we are convinced that all we do reflects the object of our worship, here we mean something narrower.  We mean the time we spend together as a group when we are gathered for a service.  We do this weekly – on Sunday mornings.  During our time together we sing, pray, share in communion, give, read the Scriptures, listen to Bible teaching and interact with one another.  All of these elements are important.  In order to be a part of Trinity, these special times must be a priority, for they set the tone for everything we do as a congregation.

BUILD UP

We recognize that our time together on Sundays is not enough.  The earliest Christians met regularly in each other’s homes.  The New Testament commands us to encourage one another daily and spur one another on to love and good deeds.  We do this at Trinity by gathering during the week in small groups.  Most of our small groups are grouped by location.  They’re called community groups.  While each has a different flavor, they all are devoted to care for each person, discussion of the Scriptures, sharing burdens and needs, and prayer.  We also have an education hour before our Sunday service and other opportunities for training and learning.  We strongly urge anyone who is a part of our congregation to be a part of a smaller group.  As we seek to live lives pleasing to God, these groups are vital.

LOVE

Our lives as Christians cannot end after the Sunday meeting, or even within the confines of a small group.  Jesus calls us to a life of service and love toward others.  We all must do this in order to obey Jesus’ commands.  We express our love for others within the congregation and throughout the world in all sorts of ways.  Some are formal; some informal.  Our GO Team, for instance, coordinates overseas missions, spreading the gospel of Jesus Christ.  Our jail ministry serves in the prisons of Prince George’s County.  But these are just two examples.  Many people at Trinity find creative ways to love that go beyond any programs we develop.  We want to encourage this outward-focused, loving, missional mindset and affirm it in all we do.

That’s it:  Worship.  Build Up.  Love.  Pretty simple.  And yet, as we focus on these things as Christians and as a congregation, we believe we’re accomplishing what God has for us in this time and place.
